In today's society, with the development of science and technology, radiation is used more and more widely, such as in medical, industrial, scientific research and other fields. However, improper use or accidental leakage of radiation may have serious effects on the environment and human health. Therefore, radiation protection and monitoring have become issues that cannot be ignored. Online radiation alarm is an important monitoring tool that emerged in this context. It is mainly used to monitor the radiation level in the environment in real time to ensure that the radiation dose is within a safe range, thereby ensuring public health and environmental safety.

Online radiation alarms usually consist of radiation detectors, preamplifier circuits, digital display circuits and other main parts. Among them, the radiation detector is its core component, responsible for detecting radiation such as x-rays, gamma rays, and neutron rays, and converting the detection results into electrical signal output. These signals are processed by the preamplifier circuit and intuitively displayed to the user in the form of numbers on the digital display screen. The device can not only measure the radiation dose rate, that is, the radiation dose per unit time, but also when the measured dose rate value exceeds the preset safety threshold, it can also immediately send out an alarm through sound and light (if there is a light alarm function) to remind relevant personnel to take countermeasures.

The definition and classification of radiation are the basis for understanding the working content of online radiation alarm devices. Radiation is energy that propagates to the surrounding medium in the form of waves or moving particles. It covers various types such as acoustic radiation, thermal radiation, electromagnetic radiation, and particle radiation. In the field of radiation protection, people are mainly concerned about ionizing radiation, including high-energy electromagnetic radiation such as X-rays and gamma rays, and particle radiation such as alpha particles, beta particles and neutron rays. Ionizing radiation has enough energy to ionize atoms, potentially causing biological tissue damage, and therefore requires strict monitoring and control.

Further analysis from the perspective of radiation protection, radiation protection aims to prevent the occurrence of deterministic effects and limit the probability of random effects to an acceptable level. The deterministic effect is an effect that will inevitably occur after the radiation dose exceeds a certain threshold, while the stochastic effect is the risk of radiation energy being deposited in the cell nucleus, leading to cell mutation or canceration. The probability of its occurrence is related to the dose. Effective radiation protection measures include three basic elements: time, distance, and shielding, that is, minimizing the time of exposure to the radiation environment, increasing the distance from the radiation source, and using appropriate shielding materials for isolation.
