Introduction

The Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA) of 1992 requires that all mammography facilities in the United States be accredited by an accredited agency. The American College of Radiology is an MQSA-approved accrediting body. To obtain MQSA certification, each facility must submit images of ACR-approved models, and to maintain certification, models must be imaged weekly and records of these images maintained. ACR has approved the CIRS 015 Mammography Test Certification Phantom for use in the ACR Mammography Certification Program.

Application

The CIRS 015 Mammography Test Certification Phantom is designed to test the performance of mammography systems by quantitatively evaluating the system's ability to image similar small structures found clinically. Objects within the phantom simulated calcification, fibrous calcification in the ducts and tumor mass.

This model is designed to identify your breastsWhether radiographic systems can detect structures important for early detection of breast cancer. Test the size of objects within the phantom range, from objects that should be visible on any system to objects that are difficult to see even on a good mammography system.

USACIRS 015 Mammography Test Certification Phantom Features:

conform toACR Phantom Specifications and QC Requirements

Fibers, spots and substances embedded in wax inserts simulate microcalcifications, fibrous structures and tumors

Ideal for monitoring mammography imaging systems,Overall performance of X-ray generator, film processor and screen film combination

simulated average gland/ Compressed breasts of 4.2 cm composed of fat

Note:The 4.4cm thick model is made from 7mm wax block inserts, contains a set of 16 test objects, has a 3.4cm thick acrylic base and a 3mm thick lid. The phantom approximates an average gland/fat composition of a 4.5 cm compressed breast. The wax insert includes spots of aluminum oxide (Al 2 O 3 ) that simulate microcalcification. Six different nylon fibers simulated fiber structures, and five different sizes of lens-shaped modules simulated tumors.

Each phantom includes4 mm x 1 cm diameter acrylic contrast test disc, faxitron X-ray image and magnifying glass.
