The Model 460 also offers the ability to select selectable integration time constants to optimize the signal-to-noise ratio in any particular experimental configuration. The integration time constant depends on factors such as system noise and the count rate in a particular experiment. The Type 460 is ideal for applications involving overload pulses as it recovers from an X500 overload to within 2% of its rated output in <5 non-overload pulse widths.
The Model 460 has <1 ns crosswalk over the 20:1 dynamic range of the output signal. It is therefore suitable for precise and fast coincidence timing applications using cross timing or constant fractional timing techniques. The Model 460 provides both immediate and delayed outputs, so the unipolar output can be temporarily stored for energy analysis as needed after timing and compliance evaluations are completed. A rear panel switch selects delayed or prompt reference recovery unipolar output.
The ORTEC Model 460 Amplifier is recommended for pulse shape analysis applications such as neutron gamma separation using the ORTEC Model 552 Pulse Shape Analyzer/Timed SCA.
