- Find and quantify Pu, Am and U in tissues
- Excellent energy and position resolution
- Provides lateral and depth positions
- lightweight
- Customer responsive design
- Ergonomically designed for easy operation in clinical situations
ORTEC's Model AWM-1 Actinide Wound Monitor is designed to accurately locate actinides embedded in tissue within the body for surgical removal. The instrument was designed using specific recommendations from a radioisotope manufacturing and reprocessing facility.
Energy resolution and position information
The instrument contains a robust, reliable, 6 mm diameter, 5 mm thick HPGe planar detector that provides excellent energy resolution and position information. By replacing Si with Ge, it is possible to compare the intensity ratio of gamma rays to L x-rays (13 to 17 keV), thereby obtaining information about the actinide depth.
Ergonomic design
The instrument's ergonomic design facilitates use in clinical situations. The handle is constructed and placed in such a way that the user does not experience hand/arm fatigue after operating the instrument for long periods of time. The 0.06-liter Dewar provides liquid nitrogen for up to one hour to complete most clinical procedures.
Personnel safety and equipment protection
Dewar ensures patient and operator safety. Regardless of its orientation, liquid nitrogen will not escape from the Dewar. If the measured radiation level is high enough to drive the preamplifier beyond its linear range, a red LED on the top of the instrument will sound a warning. If the liquid nitrogen is depleted during detector operation, an internal sensor cuts off the high-voltage power supply to protect the instrument from damage.
Instant operation
The special 25-liter storage fill dewar that comes with the AWM-1 keeps the instrument filled with liquid nitrogen and ready for use.
