Intuitive interface and expert mode
Renaissance has two different interface modules for managing supervisory/expert functions related to regular survey operations.
The Administrator module is used for initial system configuration, setting operator permissions, and more detailed spectral analysis evaluation parameters. The module can also launch custom measurement processes using automated workflows, similar to ORTEC's GammaVision flagship application, capable of analyzing both high- and low-resolution spectra.
The Operator Module provides a simple and intuitive interface for all routine operations, including personnel measurements and instrument checks, requiring minimal experience or training.

Spectrum analysis and reporting
Renaissance uses high- and low-resolution gamma spectroscopy measurement technology in personnel monitoring systems to accurately identify and quantify radioactive materials. These systems are available in a variety of physical and operational configurations with different combinations of high-purity germanium and detectors, where the detectors can be analyzed in groups or individually.
Crystal Reports enables highly customized analytical reports using results stored in a Microsoft Access database, which are easily accessible from the Operator module.
When a more detailed spectrum analysis evaluation is required, the Administrator module can be used to graphically display peak fits and adjust analysis settings as needed to optimize results.

- Calibration wizard
- Semi-automatic and manual/interactive
- Automate using job functions
- Automatic energy calibration adjustments during analysis
- Automatic gain adjustment and energy recalibration as operator-initiated option
Calibration report and graphic display
quality assurance
Regular checks of instrument performance are necessary to ensure that the system is functioning properly when samples are analyzed. These inspections may be required by regulations, standards or other regulatory bodies as a result of audits. Performance specifications should include verification of system calibration parameters, definition of acceptance limits, and warnings when these limits are exceeded. Trend control charts are also suitable and are formally required for some applications.
Main quality assurance functions:
Complies with ANSI N13.30 and ANSI N42.14 standards
Parameter monitoring
- Background count rate
- total source activity
- Total peak energy difference between spectrum and library
- Average actual to calibrated FWHM ratio
- Average actual to calibrated FWTM ratio
- Individual peak details available in database
Low/high warning and minimum/violation limits with optional detector lockout function
Quality Assurance Reports and Trend Charts
Instrument control
The interface between instruments and software is provided through the ORTEC CONNECTIONS architecture, which supports up to 250 detectors on the local network. This application layer contains all hardware drivers and communication protocols required by software applications to control MCB (Multi-Channel Buffer) instruments. Instrument controls are accessed through MCB property pages integrated with Renaissance and other standard ORTEC applications.
Windows 8.1 and 7 64-bit hardware compatibility applies to all ORTEC instruments using USB and TCP/IP connectivity protocols. Windows 71and XP 32-bit operating systems also support these instruments as well as other legacy hardware. Host-dependent instruments (such as plug-in cards or USB devices) can be shared on the network via the MCB server running on each computer. This process allows a Windows 8.1/7 64-bit computer to operate 64-bit incompatible instruments through its 32-bit host.
Key hardware control functions:
List mode data collection2
High pressure control
Curve and trim gain adjustments
Zero point and gain stabilizer
SMART-1 detector
ZDT lossless counting correction
Analog and Digital Amplifier Filters
Automatic and manual optimization
Sample changer control
Oscilloscope mode
Battery power monitoring for portable instruments
System health status monitoring
Acquisition presets including real and live time, ROI area, peak uncertainty or MDA
More details about the hardware capabilities can be found in the relevant product literature.
Motor control
Renaissance supports the standard Galil motor controller to realize automatic control of the scanning system. These scanning systems are calibrated for start (HOME) position, scan length, scan speed, return speed and maintenance position, further optimizing system operation and ensuring measurements are consistent with the configuration used for system calibration.
Scanning systems are usually configured at the factory. Turnkey systems available. Position and speed calibration can be easily adjusted at the customer's site through the comprehensive motor control setup program included with Renaissance.
