The Model 855 uses an automatically gated baseline restorer (BLR) whose system resolution is virtually independent of the input count rate. A gated baseline restorer includes a discriminator that operates the sensing circuitry that typically establishes a baseline reference for multichannel analyzers. Spectrometer performance often depends on the accuracy of the BLR threshold setting. The Model 855 features a convenient automatic threshold control that often gives results that are as good or better than manual operation by an experienced operator.
The Type 855 pulse shaping circuit produces a semi-Gaussian output pulse that improves noise performance and shortens amplifier resolution time. The shorter resolution time enables higher count rates than amplifiers with traditional RC pulse shaping circuits. The Model 855 provides a 10 V linear output with excellent DC stability for both unipolar and bipolar output pulses.
