The fast rise time (<8 ns), high output drive (±5 V to 50Ω), and wide voltage gain range (X0.9-X500) make the Type 579 suitable for many timing applications, including those using low-gain photomultiplier tubes. The Model 579 is particularly suitable for use with an ORTEC constant fraction discriminator (such as the Model 583, 935 or 473A) in timing applications with high purity germanium (HPGe) or silicon charged particle detectors. Excellent DC and gain stability (±50µV/°C and ±0.05%/°C, respectively) without the need for DC level adjustment. Includes busy LED and busy output to facilitate BLR adjustment and system connection.
Additionally, a wideband gated baseline restorer and pole-zero cancellation circuit allow ultra-high output count rates. Various pulse filters are available to improve signal processing. The versatile Model 579 integrates continuously variable gain, independently selectable integral and derivative time constants (Out, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200 and 500 ns) and a cable limiting function (external cable delay), making it ideal for complex time and energy spectrum analyses.
