The 4002A power supply can be purchased separately for use with existing NIM chassis or ordered with the 4001A NIM chassis or 4001C NIM chassis. The Type 4002A power supply is compatible with all ORTEC NIM enclosures and with most standard NIM enclosures from other manufacturers. The 4002A power supply is designed to exceed the Class 1 power supply specifications defined in DOE/ER-0457T.
The regulated DC power ratings provided by the 4002A to the attached chassis are +12 V @ 2 A, -12 V @ 2 A, +24 V @ 1 A, and -24 V @ 1 A. Output power is 96 W at ambient temperatures up to 50°C. Additionally, 117 V AC is available up to 0.43 A.
There are several ways to prevent overloading. When the heat sink temperature exceeds 82°C, a red warning light on the connection chassis control panel will illuminate. When the radiator temperature exceeds 95°C, the power will automatically turn off and the power and temperature indicators will go out. Thermal overload will automatically recover when the thermal load is reduced. The foldback circuit limits the output current of the DC power supply to 120% of its rating. This provides overload and short circuit protection. The fuse protects the AC input of the power supply.
The 4002A power supply is internationally available and can accept 100, 120, 220 or 240 V AC input voltage in the frequency range 47-63 Hz. The connector module on the rear of the 4002A is used to select the desired voltage range. The connector module also serves as a fuse box and power cord connector. The international standard IEC power connector (CEE-22) allows the use of power cords and plugs that comply with local electrical standards. The main power supply is controlled through the switch on the NIM chassis control panel.
The power and control lines of the NIM chassis are connected through the standard interface connector specified in DOE/ER-0457T. The method of mechanically mounting the power supply to the chassis is using standard bolts specified in DOE/ER-0457T.
