The Model 4002P provides DC power to four preamplifiers via standard 9-pin connectors on the rear panel. These connectors are available in ±12 and ±24 V DC and are compatible with ORTEC standard preamplifier power cords as well as most NIM manufacturers' power cords. The Model 4002P can power up to 16 preamplifiers by adding an optional Model 4002P-C1 preamp power fanout cable to each connector. Fanout cables convert one preamp power output connector into four independent preamp power output connectors.
A standard NIM chassis power connector is designed to provide ±12 V DC and ±24 V DC to a NIM module. The 4002P and NIM modules are connected by using the ORTEC model 401-C3 module extension cable, which can be ordered as an accessory. The output power is enough to drive the NIM module and four preamplifiers.
The 4002P portable power supply is designed for international use and accepts 100, 120, 220 and 240 V AC input voltages in the 47 to 63 Hz frequency range. The connector module on the rear panel is used to change and display the selected input voltage. A fuse box and input power cord connector are also included in this connector module. Since the 4002P uses the international standard IEC power connector, it allows the use of power cords and plugs that comply with local electrical standards.
The output current rating of model 4002P is 1 A at +12 V, 1 A at -12 V, 0.5 A at +24 V, and 0.5 A at -24 V.
There are three levels of protection against overload. Input current is limited by a fuse on the AC power connector. All DC outputs contain a current foldback circuit to limit the output current to 150% of rated value. This feature provides short circuit and overload protection. Once the overload condition is eliminated, recovery will occur automatically. Test points are located on the front panel to monitor the status of the DC output. When the radiator temperature rises above 82°C, the temperature warning light on the front panel illuminates. When the temperature of the radiator exceeds 95°C, the power will automatically turn off. Recovery will occur automatically when the load is reduced and the temperature drops to a safe value.
