A 10-turn locking dial on each power supply adjusts output voltage, with control resolution of 0.05% of full scale. Feedback regulation ensures output voltage accuracy within ±0.25% of full scale. The output voltage or output current of one of the power supplies can be selected for monitoring on the 3-1/2-digit LED display. This is useful when initially determining the correct bias voltage for a solid state detector. Detector bias current can be measured in the range 0.01 to 19.99 μA with 0.01 μA resolution.
A three-position locking toggle switch on each power supply selects the 1 kV or 100 V output voltage range, or disables operation of that power supply. All active power outputs are also controlled by the MASTER ON/OFF switch. A red LED on each supply indicates when the bias voltage is on.
The Model 710 incorporates several features to protect the detectors it powers and ensure the integrity of the data collected. When the power box is powered on, the green LED will indicate the polarity of the output voltage of each power supply, and the output polarity selection jumper is installed on the printed circuit board. If the detector current exceeds 20 μA, the detector's bias voltage will shut down and the yellow overload LED will illuminate to indicate the shutdown condition. That particular channel remains closed until the fault is cleared and the overload reset button is pressed. To prevent the detector and its associated preamplifier from discharging in the partial vacuum, a vacuum shut-off feature can be used. A low TTL signal from relay closure ground or trip level on the vacuum gauge can be applied to the vacuum shutdown input to shut down all bias supplies in the event of a vacuum fault in the detector vacuum chamber. A yellow front panel LED illuminates to indicate vacuum shutdown is activated. When an overload or vacuum shutdown occurs in the Model 710, a low TTL level is generated on the rear panel overload/shutdown alarm output. This output can be connected to a computer or other suitable alarm to stop the measurement and prevent the collection of fault data. The overload/shutdown alarm outputs of multiple Type 710 modules can be connected together to produce a common alarm signal.
